Blogging? Never Mind the Grammar Then!

A blog is a web space where you have considerable freedom airing your views in exactly the manner you choose.

But when it is a business blog, many make the common mistake of keeping the blog so formal that it puts the readers off. When you are writing a professional blog, whether it’s a personal blog or one for your business, grammar can take a vacation, when needed – especially if bad grammar gets your point across in a better way!

You will find that some of the best (or most popular) blogs are those that read just like they are actual conversations with grammar rules being ignored by blog writing services at times. This direct approach actually does a great job of building trust and familiarity in the reader. Of course, this does not mean that you can ignore the grammar altogether. After all, following grammar rules keeps your writing comprehensible to the reader and helps organize the ideas you put forth in your blog.

However, there are some common rules that you can break with good results. For example, using the dash can help you draw attention to the second of two ideas in a long sentence. This works well when you want to express two connected ideas but do not want the reader to miss the second one or give it less importance.

Another ‘bad grammar aid’ used by bloggers very commonly is the parenthesis. These useful ‘brackets’ keep ideas together and help add to the overall sentence without interrupting the reader’s thought process. Of course, overuse of these ‘aids’ can end up making your blog seem too frivolous or even confusing to the reader. Thumb rule – the ‘creative’ grammar in your blog is fine – as long as it’s making your writing more effective!
