Make Boring Topics Exciting!

As an online writer or content writer, you will have to write about extremely boring topics that can put you to sleep. However, you need to be able to make your article on the boring topic as fun and interesting as possible so that it does not put your readers to sleep. You cannot escape the fact that once in a while you will be faced with difficult and drab topics. So how can you transform such topics into an interesting, original, thought-provoking and valuable article?

Contrary to popular belief, converting a boring topic into an interesting article is not about loads of research, grasp on the language or stunning visuals. You need to ask the right questions before writing an article. Your article needs to answer these questions. Journalists have always used these six questions while writing their pieces – who, what, when, where, why and how.

Asking the right questions

By asking these basic questions, you can find interesting information about your boring topic and pass on this information to your readers. All you need is some time to think about the topic. This is where you need to let your curiosity loose. There may have been some things that you have always wanted to know about the topic. So make a list of these things using the six questions and start on your research accordingly.

For example, if your topic is “towels”, you may think that you have nothing interesting to write about such a mundane topic. However, you need to think about the things you always wanted to know about this piece of cloth. Then use the six questions to extract as much interesting information about this topic. Here are some questions you can ask:

• When was the towel invented?
• What was the material used to create the first towel?
• How do we have so many different types of towels nowadays?
• Why was the first monogrammed towel created?
• Who was the first person to create a towel and how did that person come about the invention?

If you can answer these questions in your article, not only will you be giving your readers a history lesson but you will also be giving them an interesting and memorable article on a boring topic. You can also look at Q&A forums like Yahoo answers, wikihow, etc. to find out what people want to know about your mundane topic. You will be surprised to know that there are many people out there who want answers to quirky questions on some of the most commonplace things in the world.

Brainstorm for questions

Finding relevant and interesting questions may not always be easy. Here are some tips to help you brainstorm and find the right questions:

• Write down all the questions that come to mind about the topic. You can filter them later.
• Write down even the most absurd questions. In fact, make it a point to think of such absurd questions. Most often they will be the most interesting ones.
• You can use random word generators on the Internet to get inspiration.
